Papmochani Ekadashi 2024 | There are a total of twenty-four (24) Ekadashis in a year, Papmochani is one of them and this Ekadashi is also dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Papmochani in Papmochani Ekadashi is made up of two literal words pap i.e. “crime” and mochani meaning “expiration” and also indicates that any devotee who observes Papmochani Ekadashi will be free from all the past and present sins. Papmochani Ekadashi 2024 date :
According to the Hindu calendar, Papmochani Ekadashi is celebrated every year on the Ekadashi date of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month and this Ekadashi is called the last Ekadashi among all the twenty-four (24) Ekadashi which falls in the middle of the two main festivals Holika Dahan and Chaitra Navratri. According to the Hindu Panchang, the Ekadashi date of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month will start from 04:14 pm on Thursday, April 4, 2024, till 01:28 pm on Friday, April 5, 2024.
Uday Tithi is valid in Sanatan Dharma, hence Papmochani Ekadashi will be celebrated on Friday, 05 April 2024 and the fast will be broken from 06:05 AM to 08:37 AM on Saturday, 6 April 2024.
Worship method of Papamochani Ekadashi :
The worship method of Papmochani Ekadashi fast, which destroys all sins, is as follows –
1) On the day of Papmochani Ekadashi, wake up in Brahma Muhurta, finish all the work, take a bath, etc., and wear clean clothes.
2) First of all, offer ardhya to the Sun God and meditate on him, and then take a pledge to observe this Ekadashi fast as per the rituals while meditating on Lord Shri Vishnu.
3) To worship Papamochani Ekadashi fast, spread a yellow cloth on a post, purify it with Ganges water, and place the idol or photo of Lord Shri Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi on it.
4) Offer yellow flowers, yellow sandalwood, and yellow sweets to Lord Vishnu. Make sure to offer a banana to Lord Vishnu, but while offering it, keep basil leaves on it.
5) After this, light the ghee lamp and incense and then worship Lord Shri Vishnu. Apart from this, read the story of Ekadashi fast by chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya Namah” 108 times with a Tulsi rosary.
6) Now in the end, perform the proper Aarti, and after distributing Prasad to everyone, consume it yourself and after worshiping again on the day of Dwadashi, break the fast by donating it to the Brahmins.
What should be done on the day of Papmochani Ekadashi :
One should give up Tamasic food (Von-veg) and intoxicating substances and also maintain a positive attitude by keeping oneself away from anger, violence, and negative thoughts on this day. On this day, practice bhajan, kirtan, and meditation which brings spiritual peace and also helps the helpless and participate in charitable activities.
Significance of Papmochani Ekadashi :
Papmochani Ekadashi reveals its importance from its name itself. The word Papmochani means destroyer of sins. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day and observing fast as per the rituals, the devotee becomes free from all the sins of his previous birth as well as the present birth and simplifies the path to salvation.
